Yoga - To discover who I am I have had to discover who I am not
I began practicing Yoga with a personal tutor in 1990 to improve my cycle race performance and was startled to find such imbalances in my body. As I began to put this right my performance naturally improved in a most pleasurable way, not to mention the considerable improvement in the rest of my life. Since then Yoga has become an integral part of my life – I enjoy practicing it as much today as I did the first time.I have been incredibly lucky to have studied and worked with some real world masters over the years, people, who have dedicated there whole lives to personal evolution. Hence the Yoga I am able to pass on is somewhat different to the majority of teachers work. I dedicate a portion of each day to continued practice as I have done for many years.
Yoga originated in India where it is has been practised for over 5000 years. It is a discipline of the body, breath, mind, will and intellect. It increases the power of concentration, which can lead to meditation if that is your wish. The ancients who developed Yoga had an advanced understanding into the workings of the human body and mind, leaving us with Yoga as a practical’s means of attaining health and happiness.
Practiced regularly, (once a week gets results), Yoga will considerably improve your quality of life. Yoga ‘asana’ (posture) uses the bodies own weight like conventional weights, to build strength coupled with extreme muscle control. Everything in Yoga is very slow and controlled so although you are never out of breath, it can be as strenuous as you wish to make it. Yoga works the body as a whole not as isolated parts, dispersing problems within the muscular system, also targeting specific glands or organs for healthy holistic balance. It builds overall body strength and flexibility, makes you less prone to injury, and better able to deal with it.
A combination of the eight limbs or disciplines in Yoga not only improve fitness and strength, but also equip you with the state of mind and energy for an even keeled journey through the days of your life. One of the limbs is ‘Pranayama’ (breathing). In ‘Pranayama’ the entire performance of the body and mind is adjusted through the breath, concentration is improved to levels of completely new experience. Pranayama assists in bringing about improved energy levels, it is curative, sharpening and evolving the senses, focusing and steadying the mind.
Squeezing and stretching glands and organs of the body, Yoga calms, releases, and adjusts us, hormonally as well as physically; allowing ideal personal metabolism. People report a feeling of calm, improved sleeping patterns, steady resolution to mental and emotional difficulties – and an increase in energy.
You can hire me to for one to one, as a group or attend a class. The combination of eight vistas or ‘limbs’ in Yoga will improve fitness and strength and equip you with the state of mind for success in sport, business or personal life. Yoga is also an exquisite practice for enquiry into deeper more philosophical issues if that is your wish and I am happy to work with you in this direction. I offer my time to teach any or all of the eight limbs as outlined below;

Feldenkrais - Improvement from wherever you begin
Feldenkrais Method (FM) is a unique method of learning and one of the worlds best kept secrets; it views the mind and body as one. It is a revolution in finding true human potential whoever you are. It creates awareness that gently nurtures intelligence, grace, fluidity and power; physically, mentally and emotionally.The FM grows the repertoire of muscular patterning possibility, this means you have a movement for every occassion, it helps open your mind to greater free flow of thinking. You can become better able to express yourself, perform a winning move in sport or create a pattern of movement that takes you away from pain or alternatively able to accurately take inner vision to outer creation. Because with FM we work with your Central Nervous System (CNS), there are as manys examples as there are thoughts. People ask me 'what is Feldenkrais all about, what can it do for me?' The reply has to be, 'what are you all about what would you like to do! FM capitalises on the brains neuroplasticity, using a non verbal communication with the CNS. Scientifically evolved over half a century to give a relaxing experience which is performed fully clothed. It gives movement congruency that brings an accuracy and outcome greater than before, energetically more economical. It is such a vast discipline by nature and so often used for personal evolution, ie people just do it for pleasure, which makes it difficult to describe. When it is applied to a particular end then description becomes a little easier as with Bones for Life which is applied Feldenkrais. Although, given clearer parameters through specific application I still find a clear description somewhat elusive because the effects are myriad. Working with your brain and mind many directions occur in the same instant, natural laws of the inner cellular world are different to those of the external world (which requires some contemplative free thinking) and the whole thing becomes a little slippery to put to fine a point on things. Saying it is an exact is doing you and I an injustice and tries to limit the limitlesss. However if you get an inkling of what I am saying to you, here is something quite incredible, vast, breathtaking and totally amazing in every sense and it is you!

With FM you can learn so very much about yourself, for example ...to change axis, find and adjust your centre of gravity, regain turning or calibrate your senses with your body . What does this mean to me you may think? Discovering one thing in life can often change many things, there are very many positives you will discover with this method. Learn to return to an anatomical neutral which assists in reducing parasitic action in muscular sequencing, thus increasing energy and performance, reducing wear and pain, sustaining health and quality ageing. Using sensory feedback and creative learning techniques, little is left to chance and so ability grows like a plant but at high speed. Dependant on who you are, the greater repertoire of movement can mean the difference between winning or losing, pain or pleasure, communication or isolation. The outcome is experienced in your thinking, your moving and your being.
FM can be done as a Functional Integration (FI) which is one on one work or as an Awareness Through Movement (ATM) for many at once. It is relaxing and for any interested person regardless. Please see www.mbsacademy.org

Remedial massage
Many issues with the muscular system can be approached through the medium of Remedial Massage, be it a sports injury, occupational stress, a back injury, joint problems, headaches or service for a healthy system. Massage stimulates the body, and aids in moving blood and lymph around the system, clearing toxins and promoting a faster rate of growth and repair. Muscles of the body work in sequence together; a pain in one area may indicate dysfunction in another area; I am generally able to diagnose and remove problems with a high degree of accuracy.Through hands on treatment working with the muscular system, (which makes up the greater proportion of the human body) I use a variety of simple yet well proven techniques (in addition to some cutting edge methods) and am able to release stress, increase movement and relieve pain. I work very deeply into the musculature, methodically with each muscle and or group relevant to each session and individuals requirements. Spasm, micro trauma and other muscle injury can be found and stimulated to repair itself. The remedial work is generally used in tandem with stretching exercise pooled from my vast knowledge of stretching and the nature of thus with the body.

It is not a practice reserved for time of injury alone, but a practice that the wise use periodically for longevity of well being.
